about
stones hands sweat water colour time
hi, welcome, i’m alana ( what--makes ).
I explore how creativity shapes health, attention, and relationship, both human and ecological. This work brings together art, embodied practice, and environmental awareness, grounded in over twenty years of training, research, and lived experience.
i specialise in collaborative, practice-based work with elders, traditional practitioners, and communities whose knowledge systems use art, movement, sound, and ritual to support individual and ecological wellbeing. this work has been shaped by long-term apprenticeship and time in the field, particularly across embodied and somatic traditions.
working fluidly across fibre, film, music, movement, digital media, and craft, i create immersive artworks, experiences, and learning environments. these projects often weave together storytelling, science, and sensory practice, inviting deeper listening, regulation, and care.
alongside artistic projects, i work as an integrative somatic & depth practitioner, supporting people to reconnect with bodily intelligence, inner rhythm, and sustainable ways of living and creating. this somatic work informs all aspects of my artistic and facilitation practice.
i collaborate with communities, institutions, organisations, and researchers internationally, and my work is often site-responsive, slow, and relational.
good work on being you.
have fun looking around.
