breathe 4 the planet is a guided pranayama listening album by what--makes, created in collaboration with nature sound recordist andrew skeoch of listening earth.

the album was released alongside ∿𓂃˚NO edge∿𓂃˚ a song and film made in response to the algal bloom affecting the waters and coast of South Australia. the project considers the body as porous rather than separate from its surroundings, dissolving the boundaries between human and more-than-human bodies, water, land and atmosphere. it forms part of the wider ethos of breathe 4 the planet: listening to the world around us not as something distant, but as something we are physically and relationally entangled within.

breathe 4 the planet brings voice-led breath practices into conversation with recordings of oceans, wetlands, birds, wind and other living habitats.

rather than using nature sound as a backdrop, the soundscapes form part of the practice itself: a reminder that human respiration exists within a larger system of exchange between species and landscapes.

breath is a practice of regulation. listening is a practice of attention. together, they create a simple ritual for slowing down, becoming present and noticing our relationship with the environments that sustain us.

the album asks what happens when personal practice becomes ecological action? breath is entangled with land: the air entering our lungs has travelled through forests, wetlands and across oceans. when we learn to stabilise our own internal rhythms, we also become more capable of responding thoughtfully to the world around us.

profits from bandcamp sales of breathe 4 the planet will be donated to surfrider sa to support coastal regeneration projects. the album is offered as both a listening practice and an act of reciprocity: breath returning something to the landscapes that make breath possible.
